Mother Ethel White Woods was born February 26, 1923 to the union of Rosella Sam White and Valery White in the Plaisance Community of Opelousas, Louisiana. Mother Woods accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mohorn Baptist Church in the Plaisance Community under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. Samuel Crowder.
At an early age, Mother Woods moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana. Mother Woods was a faithful and dedicated member of Unity Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor A.B. Lartigue. She served faithfully as Mother of the Church, Deaconess Ministry, Kitchen Ministry, Mission Ministry, Sunday School Ministry, and Vacation Bible School Worker.
Mother Woods was a child of the King. She loved the Lord with all of her mind, body, and soul. Mother Woods reared her children and grandchildren in the fear and admonition of the Lord. In her neighborhood and family, she was known as a prayer warrior. She was a prayer partner to the young and old alike. Mother Woods did not meet a stranger. She had a caring and giving spirit and was willing to help everyone.
Mother Woods was married to Clarence Woods and to their union four children were born. Mother Woods was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Mother Woods was preceded in death by her parents, Valery and Rosella Sam White; daughter, Esther R. Brown; son, Gerard Woods; six sisters, Gustavia White, Selina Pitre, Florence Pitre, Flora Durgan Cluff, Dorethel Pitre and Helen W. Calhoun; five brothers, Persley White Sr, Lawrence Pitre, Morris Pitre, Vernon White Sr. and Marion O. White.
Mother Woods leaves to cherish and carry on her legacy two daughters, Rose (Alfred Jr.) Young and Cheryl A. Woods of Lake Charles, La.; daughter in law, Pamela V. Woods; grandchildren, Deidra Y. Young, Delisa (Gregory) Clark, Derick (Chelsea) Woods Sr., Deitrick S. Young, Daphne (Paul) Guillory, Deneika E. Woods and Donovan C. Woods; great grandchildren, Jorel Young, Logan Clark, Derick Woods Jr., Kaidon Woods, Dai'lon Woods, Da'vyn Woods, Kordae Woods, Khylnn Woods, A'Kylie Woods, Paisley and Payton Guillory; two sisters, Wiona Thomas and Levonia (Joseph) Thomas of Plaisance, Louisiana along with a host of nieces, nephews,, relatives and extended family.
