Preston Washington Jr. Obituary

On the morning of Friday, January 3, 2020, Preston C. Washington Jr. departed this life unexpectedly and was immediately called home to be with the Lord.

He was a loving husband and an amazing father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and a likeable friend to so many.

He was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana to his proud parents, Preston C. Washington Sr. and Hattie E. Whitt of Dequincy, Louisiana.  He was the older of two children. After graduating from Grand Avenue High School, he continued his education and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Preston worked as an educator at Vinton Northside in Vinton, Louisiana where he met the love of his life, Iva Washington.  They settled in Lake Charles and raised two children.  After educating students for thirteen years, he worked for many years at Goosport Recreation Center and then retired from employment with the City of Lake Charles.

He accepted Christ at an early age. He was a faithful member of Woodbury Church of Fellowship in Lake Charles, Louisiana.  He was a member of the Laymen Brotherhood and served as Church Moderator and President of the Trustee Board.

Preston loved sports, especially baseball.  He was a Los Angeles Dodgers superfan through and through.  He coached many girls' softball and boys' baseball teams in Westlake and Lake Charles area.  He was always told how valuable his impact was on them as he instilled a good work ethic, a sense of teamwork, and a love for sports.

He leaves to cherish a lifetime of memories:  his loving and devoted wife, Iva Washington of Lake Charles; one proud son, Torin Washington of Lake Charles; one precious daughter, Trinette Riddick of Glenn Allen, VA; brother, Larry Washington Sr. of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren, Tremayne Washington, Tyler Washington, Torey Washington all of Lake Charles; great-grandchildren, Trey Guy and Elias Chapman of Lake Charles; sisters in law; brothers in law and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Preston will always be remembered by his family and friends.  We will miss him dearly, but we know that someday we will all be together again.  We will not say goodbye, but see you later husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
