Annie Russ Obituary

Born on February 18, 1940 in Lake Charles, LA, Annie Bell Russ was the beloved daughter of the late Milton and Regina Stevens.  She grew up in Lake Charles surrounded by the warmth of her family and community.  She was preceded in death by brothers, Melvin, Clarence, and Herbert Stevens, and sisters, Ruby Stevens and Fretty Bell Carrier.

She received her early education at Washington High School in Lake Charles and went on to attend Lake Charles Cosmetology School, where she developed a skill and passion for hairstyling.  After marrying the late Robert Russ in Lake Charles, LA, she moved to Buffalo, NY, in the early 1960s to begin the next chapter of her life.

In Buffalo, she worked as a hairstylist for a time before gaining employment with Harrison Radiators of General Motors, where she  was known for her dedication and strong work ethic.  After years of committed service, she retired in the early 1980s.  Over the course of her life, she divided her time between Lake Charles and Buffalo, remaining connected to both communities that shaped her.  Among her favorite pastimes were playing in the slots and bingo, where she was fondly known as "the queen"

She leaves to cherish her memory: brother, Thomas Stevens; nephew and niece (who were her caretakers), Joseph Allen Carrier and Kimberly Carrier; along with other nephews, nieces, many cousins, and a host of friends who will remember her with love.

Her life was one of resilience, devotion to family, and lasting bonds across both Louisiana and New York.  Though she will be deeply missed, her memory lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
