Carrillean Batiste Obituary

Carrilline Sylvester Batiste 84, the last child born of fourteen (twelve preceded in death) to the union of the late John Sylvester of Port Barre, Louisiana and the late Victoria Viltz Sylvester of Jennings, Louisiana was born on October 16th, 1940 in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Carrilline grew up learning about God's faith early in life from her parents and it would be that faith that carried her on throughout her life as she continued her life's journey attending primary, secondary school and finally graduating from Washington High School.

From there, Carrilline began mission work traveling and spreading the word of God, which allowed her the opportunity to see the world, many big cities and other countries as she fulfilled her purpose of helping to bring others to Christ, while visiting family-especially those who had joined the military and gone abroad.

It was during this life as a young independent and well-traveled single woman in her early to mid-thirties that she met and marred her husband, Issac Batiste (preceded in life) and from Lake Charles, Louisiana, who happened to be stationed at the same naval base as she.  The couple decided to call Lake Charles home upon his discharge.

Carrilline wasted no time upon returning home, adopting Starlight Baptist Church as her church home.  An active and participatory, faithful and dedicated member and blessed steward onto many, one could often witness her giving rides to others and her nephew, Eddie Andrews, just to make sure they attended Sunday Services or paying dues for several to keep them active with tithes.

For many, many years she gave tirelessly of herself-as she did when she cared for her husband through his cancer care until his last breath-as her body, mind, soul and spirit would allow her, until she succumbed to her illness and was unable to continue driving or caring for herself.

During better days, Carrilline enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends for holiday gatherings, gardening, shopping (clothing and jewelry) and just talking casually.

She was employed by and retired from both Krogers Stores (Hwy 14 and 12th Street Deli) and lastly Moss Regional Cafeteria as a Cook.

Carrilline leaves to mourn, the last of her family's clan, her sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Marie Sylvester Hursey of Lake Charles, Louisiana; sisters in law, brothers-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
