Dwayne " Moose" Marshall Obituary

Obituary for Dwayne Louis Marshall

On Friday, the 9th of February 2024, Dwayne “Moose” Marshall departed this life at the age of 64, in Lake Charles, LA.

He was born on August 3, 1959, in Lafayette, LA to the late Clara Marshall Simon and Dillard Harrison, Sr.

As a native of Iowa and lifelong resident, he was deeply committed to his community and the festivities thereof. As the self-proclaimed and affectionately addressed as the unofficial “Mayor of Iowa” he regularly attended City Council meetings to represent the interests of the communities' residents.  He was also heavily involved in lowa's annual Iowa Chicken Run, where he took pride in his role of directing parade route and was sure to host the Bower Street block party afterwards.

His career led him down several paths that he took pride in. Amongst his many trades,  he was a member of the International Long Shoreman Union, Local 2047. Entrepreneurial cement finisher, completing some of the most notarized landmarks in Lake Charles and surrounding areas, he also worked as a Class A Craftsman and lead Pipefitter, alongside his son Durrell.

He well known for imaginative story telling… Including his “battles in Vietnam and CIA covert operations” which brought much entertainment to everyone who knew him, especially his nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

He leaves to cherish his memories his children Durrell (Misty) Washington. Sr., of Lake Charles, LA, Cory Marshall and Norris Pete of Houston, Texas, and Lanee Washington, of Lake Charles, La. his brothers, Ivory (Donna) Simon, of Houston, Texas, Kim Simon, of Lafayette, LA, Dillard (Sandra) Harrison Jr., Larry Harrison, and Lester (Michelle) Harrison, all of Lake Charles. Sisters, Marissa (Tracy) Hudson, Cynthia (Michael) Guillory, and Lisa (Scott) Bowman also all of Lake Charles, LA, his 9 grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.

Whereas Moose loved all his family, he shared a special bond with his grandchildren, Durrell D.J." Washington, Dylan Washington, and Alaya Washington, his nieces, Kristina "Krissy" Hudson and Alisha Hanchett, his nephew, Elvin "Man" Hanchett, and UNcle Vince "Jay" Marshall.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Keith Simon and Patrick Harrison and his sisters, Judy Hanchett, Roxanne Harrison, Leslie Harrison and Betty Washington.
