Jerome Mayo Obituary

Jerome Patrick Mayo, 61, departed this life on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at his residence.

He was born on July 17, 1959 in Lake Charles, LA to the parentage of the late Leonard and Olevia Mayo. He was reared in Lake Charles, LA where he was baptized at the tender age of six at Greater Saint Mary Baptist Church by the late Rev. R.B House. At the age of 12, the family’s faith journey led to Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral care of Rev. Harvey Lawson and later, Rev. Freddie G. Brown. Jerome was a faithful member and as a youth, he enjoyed singing in the Youth Choir, attending Sunday School, and BTU. He always looked forward to attending Vacation Bible School in summer months.

Jerome was a 1978 graduate of Marion High School. While attending, he was a member of the Marching Band and played the saxophone.

On June 16, 1984, Jerome was united in matrimony to Diana Lubin. To this union, two children were born. He loved his kids unconditionally.

He worked many years as a truck driver and loved fishing, vegetable gardening, and eating. Most of all, he loved spending time with his precious little grandson.

Jerome was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Olevia Mayo, brother, Gary Norman Mayo, paternal grandparents, Emil and Aria Mayo, maternal grandparents, Sylvia and Joseph Glover.

His precious memories will be cherished by a family who loved him dearly. He leaves behind one son; Donovan Mayo, one daughter; Jade Mayo (Justin King), one grandson; Knox King, his siblings; Katheleen Mayo, Marva Jean Frank (Paul Frank), Mahogany Porter (Jimmy Porter), Leonard Mayo Jr. (Rose), and Pamela Mayo Miles. He also leaves behind his aunts; Beulah Richard, Pearl Rice, Emmaline Wilford, Anna Fredricks. His uncles; Donald Mayo and Jonathan Glover, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
