Julia Simpson Obituary

July 24, 2024, Julia Wilma Simpson, eight-three of Lake Charles, Louisiana passed away peacefully with her family by her side as she entered her most beautiful eternal place of rest.

Julia, affectionately known as Wilma, was born on December 24, 1940 in Lawtell, Louisiana to Mary Pear Jourdan and Elvin Joseph Semien.  Wilma was the third child of fourteen siblings.

Wilma is preceded in death by her siblings, Willie Semien, Willis Semien, Ivy Griffin, Hebert Semien, and Shirleen Griffin.  Her remaining siblings are Merrick Semien, Theresa Semien, Ezola Dupre, Harold Semien, Murphey Semien, Eula Jason, Leola Bellard, and Elvin Semien Jr.

Wilma was extremely proud of her three children:  Ronald LaVergne, John Oren LaVergne Jr. and Laura Denice Belle.  Wilma nurtured each of her children with deep love, acts of service and profound words of wisdom.  She was adamant that her children would be taught to love and be a beacon of strength and encouragement for each other.  Wilma raised her children to love, serve and honor God and to support and love one another because family was the most important aspect of her life.

Because of her desire to always be the source of strength and love for her children.  Wilma retired from housekeeping  ion 2004 to help raise her grandchildren.  Yes she was honored to be a full-time grandmother, whom her grandkids lovingly called 'Maw".

Wilma took her job as "Maw" very seriously.  She was ever-present in all their lives.  She often hosted family gatherings so that she could enjoy making memories with her children and grandchildren.  Her grandchildren knew they could talk to Maw because she would understand.

Wilma was a devout Catholic.  She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.

Maw was a woman of many hobbies.  She enjoyed cooking and barbequing (especially for her grandkids), gardening, exercising, watching soap operas and Golden Girls-Sophia was her favorite, sewing, baking, and playing bingo.  Her favorite hobby of them all was spending time with family.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, her eldest son, Ronald LaVergne, and her grandson, Jeremy Paul LaVergne.

Julia Wilma Simpson (Maw) will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who were blessed to know her.

The memories Wilma made with her family will forever be cherished  by her children, John (Demita) O. LaVergne Jr. and Laura Denice Belle; her grandchildren, Marcus Semien, Jordan LaVergne, John Aaron LaVergne, Christopher (Chadrick) Edmond, Kendall Belle, Daniel Williams and Sidney Dozier; and her great grandchildren, Jayla Davis, Jayden LaVergne, Graylynn Guillory, Ariyah Semien, Evra LaVergne and Georgia Williams.
