Leron “Disco” Calligan
A man who enriched our lives with much fun and laughter.
Leron “Disco” Calligan entered this life on November 12,1955, and peacefully departed this world on April 13, 2026. He was born in Opelousas, Louisiana, (in the family home, as were all his siblings). Years later, the family moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana, due to a great job opportunity for his dad. At that point, Leron attended W.O. Boston High School and became a member of the football team. He played football all of his high school years.
After he graduated from high school in 1973, he enrolled in the United States Air Force and served with great passion and dedication. During that time, he studied radio broadcast as an elective and was given the name “DISCO”. He loved the name so much that he also named his dog Disco. Later, he was injured on the base and was released from the Air Force in September 1975, with an honorable discharge.
Leron had a genuine heart. His personality was great, and he was liked by everyone. He loved helping people and offering his assistance in any way. He did small jobs, large jobs, or any job. He really enjoyed being outside and doing lawn care for clients. He also enjoyed gardening because his mother taught him how to grow okra, large mustard greens, and other vegetables. He had a green thumb and became a very powerful gardener who shared his produce with everyone.
He was reared in a Christian home and learned about God at an early age. He was a member of New Sunlight Baptist Church most of his life where he sang in the choir during his earlier years. A few weeks before he transitioned, he said, “I will trust God no matter what. I have seen His miraculous grace in my life.”
Leron was proceeded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Junius Calligan; his brothers Clifton Calligan (six days old) and Rev. Paul Calligan (Joyce); and his lifelong mate (Martha). He leaves to treasure his memory of laughter and lightheartedness his older brother, Perry Calligan (Tipp) of Eutaw, Alabama; his older sister, Theresa Turner of Atlanta, Georgia; his younger sister, Lucille Calligan Searcy of Atlanta, Georgia (Edward); Martin Henry, Jr. (Trinell), a special nephew who grew up with him as a son and was very close to him all of his life; his best friend Ralph (Joyce) who was like a brother to him since the age of 17; and a host of many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Psalm 90:10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength, labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. (KJV)
