Lois McKnight Obituary

Mrs. Lois Coleman McKnight transitioned to be with the Lord on Friday, December 7, 2018.

Mrs. McKnight was born on February 9, 1919 to the late James Edward and Mamie J. Bryant Coleman in Brookhaven, Mississippi.  Mrs. McKnight was the first child of five children to the Coleman-Bryant union.  She received her early religious training at home and Kynett United Methodist Church which gave her a lifelong love and commitment to Christ and his teachings.  She joined Flowery Mount Baptist Church in 1946 and was baptized by her husband.  Upon locating to Lake Charles, she joined Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church under the pastorship of Rev. Freddie Brown and later joined New Covenant Faith Baptist Church under the pastorship of Dr. Jimmy R. Stevens.

Mrs. McKnight graduated from Jackson State University and furthered her studies at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.

!n 1946, she married to Rev. Dr. H.L. McKnight and to this union two children were born.

Along with church work, Mrs. McKnight taught in the Franklin County Public School System for 45 years.  She loved teaching and helping children.  Her teaching and assisting in working with her husband in the ministry of the gospel as a Pastor's wife was seen throughout the community.  She often ministered with kind acts of love along side her husband to many families and church members.  She traveled with her husband to numerous State and National Baptist Conventions and  Sunday School Congresses.

Mrs. McKnight leaves to cherish her beautiful life, two children, Gladys McKnight of Lake Charles, La.; and Harry L. (Jacquie) McKnight Jr of Snellville, Ga.; three grandsons, Harry L. (Jamie B.) McKnight III (Trey); James Matthew McKnight, and Christopher Adam McKnight of Snellville, Ga.; two great grandsons, Mason Lee and Rowen McKnight of Atlanta, Ga.; numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and church members,

Her favorite scriptures were John 3:16 and Psalm 23.  Her favorite hymn was Leaning on the Everlasting Arms.
