Manuel Pappillion, 77, earned his angel wings from our Lord on Monday, February 7, 2022. Manuel was born in Eunice-Lawtel, LA and lived the majority of his life in Lake Charles, LA. He was born on May 10, 1944 to the Late Elise Pete and Verdie Pappillion. Manuel married the love of his life, Patsy Smith, and they were blessed with three children, one son and two daughters.
He was a self-taught brick mason whose skills allowed him to travel and live in many states where he worked on celebrities’ homes from California to Georgia. His passion was training racehorses. He would later go on to compete and run in some of the most competitive arenas of Horse Racing, such as Delta Downs and Evangeline Downs. He was known as a “Pap” to all who would seek him to help train their horses. He never let anyone tell him he would not accomplish anything. He was a businessman who owned his own mechanic shop that he built himself. He loved the New Orleans Saints. His children, grandchildren, and horse, “Black Girl” were his life. If he was not talking about them in the conversation, he was showing them off in his smartphone that he always had to keep charged to make sure the battery was not low. Pap was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church under the pastorship of Pastor Barry Thomas.
He leaves to cherish his memory, one son, John Edward Pappillion; two daughters, Tangela Pappillion, Oceanna Pappillion-Blount (Serranzo); son-in-law, Tony Freeman; grandchildren, Key’Ochia Blount (Kiara), Ja’Liyah Semien, Ja’Meano Semien, Serranzo Jah’Won Blount, Ja’Corio Semien (Jasmine), John Edward Pappillion, Jr., Marcus Semien, Jermaine Humphrey, Lildell Freeman, Leland Freeman; eighteen great grandchildren; sister, Georgia Mae Howell (the late Allen); brother, Raymond Pete (Louise), Johnny Coke Pete (Eartha Gail); mother of his children, Patsy Pappillion; mother-in-law, Mary Pete Carter; godchildren, Bridgette Pappillion, Jericia Eddie and Gerald Antoine; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and close friends to include Michael “Mickey” Holloway, Barbara Gale Eddie, Johnny Pappillion; and his coffee buddy, Jewell Simon.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elsie Pete and Verdie Pappillion; brothers, George Pete, Joe Pete and Charles “CJ” Joubert..
