Portrait of Mary's Life
Mary Edna Reed Duhon was born in Elton, La. on July 2, 1930 to Alice Chachere Reed and Bazile Reed.
Mary attended Epps Beauty College and started a business. She later worked for the Calcasieu Parish School Board where she served as both a cook and custodian. Mary also worked for William and Gail Baggett helping to care for their children. She also cared for the children of several other local families.
Mary had a joy and love of cooking and could often be found in the kitchen cooking big meals for her family. She made sure that when her husband and sons returned from work, there was a hot meal on the stove.
Mary married Edward F. Duhon. To this union three sons were born, Gerald, Willie Ray, and Terrell Duhon.
Mary suffered great loss in her life as she was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edward F. Duhon; two sons, Willie Ray and Terrell Duhon; seven brothers, Willie, Lawrence, Tote, Arthur, Joseph, Joe, and Samuel Reed; two sisters, Emily Morrow and Hilda Reed Tezeno; one grandson, Gerald "Buster" Duhon.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Daisy Day Walker; one son, Gerald Duhon; her beloved sister, Laura Williams; godchild, Mary Jane Babers; nine grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren; step sons, Charles Mark Duhon, Edwin Duhon and Patrick Duhon; daughter in law, Joann Green Duhon, along with a host of other relatives.
