Melvin Carrier Jr. was born June 19, 1945 to Mr. and Mrs. Melvin and Mary Carrier Sr. in Port Arthur, Texas.  He was the first born of their five (5) children.  At an early age the family moved to Dequincy, Louisiana.

Here he attended Grand Avenue High School and graduated with the class of 1964.  Melvin was a part of a basketball team that made history.  The team scored the most points by one team in the history of high school basketball at that time according to the Guinness Book of World Records.  After finishing high school, he attended Grambling College State University where he received a BS degree in Biology and Chemistry in 1969.  Melvin did not stop there.  He still craved a desire for learning so he joined the United States Army.  While at Fort Rucker, he worked with USAARL in hearing research.  He retired from the Army in 1989 while stationed at Fort Rucker Alabama.

Melvin met and married Elizabeth Gray and to this union they added,  Galery and Bobbie Gray.

He leaves to cherish his memories his mother, Mrs. Mary Carrier of  Dequincy, La.; his wife, Elizabeth Carrier; stepchildren, Galery and  Bobbie;  grandson, Seth of Dequincy, La.; two sisters, Helen (Robert) Mitchell of Grambling, La. and Carla Drake of Topeka, Ks.; one brother, Michael Carrier, and sister in law, Freddie Diane Carrier of Dequincy, La. and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
