Myra Lawson Obituary

We are saddened to announce the passing of Myra Nadine Lawson, a cherished sister, aunt and friend, who left us on April 17, 2025, at the age of 65.  Myra passed leaving a legacy of love, resilience, and compassion.

Born on February 21, 1960, in Lake Charles,  La, Myra was the seventh child of 10 siblings.  Her early years were filled with laughter and adventure.  She graduated from Washington High School/W.O. Boston High School in 1978 and pursed a Medical Assistant degree from Sowela Technical Community College in 1981 where her creativity truly flourished.

Myra's career at St. Patrick Hospital, as a Medical Assistant spanned over three years during which she brought stories to life with her vibrant illustrations.  Her work touched the hearts of many, and left a lasting impression to whom ever she met.  Myra then moved to Houston, Texas in 1985 where she was employed at Doctors Hospital but  was soon forced into early retirement after a devasting car accident.

Myra's family were the center of her universe, and she treasured every moment spent with her siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends.  She was affectionately called "Surround Sound" by her niece Tasha.

Myra leaves to cherish her memories, three sisters, Pauletta Lawson of Lake Charles, La., Sylvia Lawson-Landry of Houston, Tx. and Ursula Lawson of Dallas, Tx. One Brother, Rodney (Ruby Nell) Lawson of Longview, Tx. Two sisters in law, Brenda Gilmore of Lake Charles, La. and Glenda Lawson of Lake Charles, La. One aunt, Mildred Lawson of Lake Charles, La. One God Daughter, Kanitra Le'Shawn Taylor of Lake Charles, La. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, along with friends whom she cherished very deeply.

Myra was preceded in death by her loving mother, Amy and loving father, James Lawson. Maternal grandparents, Amy and Edgar Mapps. Paternal grandparents, Melvin and Edna Lawson. Sisiters, Phyllis A. Lawson and Jacqueline Y. Gilmore. Brothers, Edgar C. Lawson Sr., Byron J. Lawson, and Aubrey L. Gilmore. Sisters in law, Marilyn Lawson and Nephew, Dominic Mitchell.

Myra's warmth, creativity, and love will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue tom inspire all who knew her. May she rest in Peace!
