Orelia "Patsy" Jones

Orelia “Patsy” Jones , 89, was born on December 3, 1932 in Charenton, LA to the late Timothy and Alberta Bennett.  Death’s intrusion appeared to claim this beautiful rose for the heavenly garden on March 17, 2022.

Orelia was the seventh of eleven children. She was united in marriage to the late Lawrence Dunbar Jones, Sr. and to that union four children were born:  Lawrence Jr., Donald, Jacqueline and Larry. 

Patsy accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend D.J. Jones.  She later united in faith and became a member of Glad Tidings Church.  Orelia was a “Laborer of Love.”  She loved the Lord and unconditionally loved her Family and others.  Everybody was “somebody” in her book.  She spent a lot of time ministering and advising others. Patsy was not one to stay still. She loved visiting with her family and others. Always checking on you to make sure you were alright and reaching out her hands to help wherever there was a need. If you were sick and she knew it, no need to worry, she was on the way. She shared her home with many; either feeding or ministering to them and most of the times doing both.  She enjoyed serving others!

Orelia worked at McNeese State University for 30 years before retiring. Afterwards she became employed at Jennifer’s Little Angel where she served as a cook for over 17 years; fulfilling her passion of what she loved doing most.

Her life will be forever cherished by one daughter, Jacqueline (Kendall) Roberts; one son, Larry “Lynn” Jones; one sister, Lucille (Felton) Johnson, all of Lake Charles; 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and two extended sisters, Catherine Celestine and Jean Alfred; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Orelia was preceded in death by her parents, Timothy and Alberta Bennett; her husband, Lawrence Dunbar Jones; two sons, Lawrence Jones, Jr. and Donald Jones; nine siblings, Ernest, Clarence, Clayton, Rufus, Leroy, Timothy, Clifford, Mildred Alfred and Viola Roberson.
