A Life to Remember- Pastor John “Boz” Wilson Dartez Jr.
On September 25, 1949, life began for this soldier in Jennings, Louisiana. Pastor John Wilson Dartez Jr. “Boz” was born to the union of the late John Wilson Dartez Sr. and Leanna Pete Dartez. He transitioned to eternal life on Wednesday, July 7, 2021. He was educated in the Jefferson Davis Parish School System and graduated from Jeff Davis High of Jennings, Louisiana in 1967.
John grew up in the Catholic faith then soon joined Baptist and accepted Christ in 1968. He was baptized and united with the Greater St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R.B. House for several years. Serving as Superintendent over the Sunday School Department and a Deacon for several years, John was later called to Pastor the Antioch Baptist Church of Merryville, Louisiana in November of 1996. He served as Pastor for 24 years and was currently the President over the 5th Sunday Fellowship that consists of 5 local churches. He worked as a scalesman and retired from Farmers Rice Mill after 32 years. After retiring he enjoyed working with his sons taking on maintenance and yard jobs. He was a man of faith and he enjoyed gatherings with his family, traveling, watching movies with his wife, and loved her cooking and baking. He loved the Lord dearly and he was committed to reading his word daily at sunrise.
On May 30, 1970, John married the love of his life, Darcel Denise (Freeman) Dartez and was blessed to share 51 years of marriage. To this union six children were born, John W. Dartez III (Barbara); Natasha D. Piert (Kevin); Rhoda D. Young (Raymond); Derryl D. Dartez (Tiffany); Keylen V. Dartez; and Shaemon N. Dartez (Jennifer-fiancé). He has 13 grandchildren who he loved so dearly, favorably known as Paw-Paw.
He was preceded in death by his father, John W. Dartez Sr. and one brother, Alton F. Dartez Sr.
Those left to cherish John’s loving memories includes his loving wife, Darcel D. Dartez; six children; John W. Dartez III (Barbara); Natasha D. Piert (Kevin); Rhoda D. Young (Raymond); Derryl D. Dartez (Tiffany); Keylen V. Dartez; and Shaemon N. Dartez (Jennifer-fiancé); 13 grandchildren; his mother, Leanna Pete Dartez; two sisters, Savanna Dartez Robinson (Lake Arthur, LA) and Renella Dartez Daniels; three brothers, Curtis Dartez, Rayford (Diane) Dartez; Anthony Dartez, all of Jennings; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
