Obituary for Roger “R.C.” Carrier Jr.
R.C. was born to Roger Carrier Sr. and Margarette Dorsey-Carrier on July 12th 1948 in the city of San Francisco CA. He attended Emerson Elementary School in San Francisco. He graduated from Balboa High School in June 1966.
R.C. moved with his mother to 1247 Carlton St. in East Palo Alto, CA. where he resided until enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1968. He was honorably discharged in 1970.
Upon his return from service R.C. met Ms. Gladys M. Cooper. From that union their son Reshawn “Blanco” Cooley Carrier was born on April 4th 1971 in San Francisco CA.
R.C. moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana. Where he met and married Ms. Gerry Dean Fontenot. He helped to raise her three children Giselle, Clifton, and Andre until her passing in 1982. He remained in Lake Charles until 1991. R.C. then relocated to Oakland, CA to pursue his musical career. His area of specialty was vocals, the accordion and the washboard.
He performed with various Zydeco groups and artists such as: Zydeco Slim, The MotorDude Zydeco Band, The O.G. Zydeco Band. He recorded with Clifton Chenier, Elvin Bishop, Rockin’ Sydney, BooZoo Chavez, The Delafose Group, Danny Pollard, Andrea Thierry, Mark St. Mary, Kenny Maynard and a plethora of other musicians. R.C. performed at many venues in Reno and Las Vegas, NV. Seattle, WA. Los Angeles, CA. Beaumont, TX and was one of the headlining musical performers in the Crawdad Festivals held every Father’s Day weekend in Isleton, CA.
R.C. was a supporter of the Deacon Board at Third Baptist Church on McAllister St. in San Francisco, CA. Preceding R.C. in passing are his parents, siblings Lula Mae Price, Jimmie Stringfellow, James Burks Jr., Doris Bailey-Burks, Joseph Williams III, Barbara Jean Williams, and
R.C. leaves to cherish his memory his son Reshaun “Blanco” Carrier, his granddaughter Ciaara in Sacramento, CA. A sister Sandra Williams of Merced, CA. A brother Stephen Williams of San Jose, CA. also a huge host of nieces and nephews.
A special mentioned to R.C.s longtime friend and close family ties is Ms. Charlotte Lang. All of the family appreciates you sis. Also an honorable mention to Ms. Mary Bellow of Lake Charles, Louisiana. of where R.C. spent his last days in a loving and warm home.
