Robert Ambrose Obituary

Robert Leonard Ambrose, earned his wings Tuesday,  November 17,2020. Robert was born June 18, 1943, to George  Ambrose Sr, and Annie Mae Guidry Ambrose.

Robert attended Sacred Heart Catholic School then proceeded to Grambling State University where he received a B. A in Liberal Arts and attended Southern university law school. After graduation, he worked in north Louisiana teaching. He also worked as a Paralegal focusing on welfare rights in Calcasieu parish then transitioned to Baton rouge Louisiana. In Baton Rouge Robert worked in several state governments agencies including the Department of Urban Community Affairs, Dept of Justice, and worked for Congressman Richard Baker as a Legislative Aide .

He moved back to Lake Charles and worked for Calcasieu parish Senior volunteer Program, then transitioned to working in the Calcasieu parish School Board System where he was employed at the time of his death.

Robert believed in Social Activism and Political involvement. He was a member of the Lyons Club, RNC, NAACP. PHI Beta Sigma fraternity, and a member of Throne of Grace Fellowship Church where he had been a member of male chorus and current member of usher and greeters department.

Robert and Ethel Bernard Ambrose were married on Jan 1, 2006. Together they parented 5 children. Frederick Demond Parker (Jamise ) of Lake Charles, Rodrick Leonard Ambrose(Ashley) of Georgia, Portia Monique Mims ( Devin) of Port Arthur, TX. David J. Smith Jr of Lake Charles, LA, Elisha Smith Criner (Marcus) of Lafayette,

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife Ethel Bernard Ambrose, his sons Fredrick Parker and Roderick Ambrose. His Children in love, David Smith Jr, Elisha Smith Criner, Portia Mims, his Nephew George Spencer Ambrose of Richmond VA , one niece Shedreka Ledee of Lake Charles, four sister in laws, one brother in law,12 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents George and Annie Mae Ambrose, brother Rev Dr. George Ambrose Jr, and brother in law Robert Bernard Sr.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday November 25,2020 at 8am at New Covenant Faith Baptist Church, 2233 12th St, Lake Charles, LA 70601, Memorial Service following at 1pm Reverend Dr. Wilton J. Red officiating, Final disposition is under the direction of Stevens' Funeral Home.
