Verna Ruffin Obituary

Verna Rose Miller-Ruffin was born on May 31, 1959 in Lake Charles, La.  She was the second of seven children born to the union of the late Beatrice Smith Miller Lewis and William Miller. She was baptized at an early age and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior giving her life to Christ at Mount Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Hernest Arvie.  Later in her walk with Christ, she became a member of Trinity Full Gospel Church under the leadership of Rodrick and Theresa Henry.  She then became a faithful member of Evangel Temple Outreach under the leadership of Bishop Erika Braxter where she remained until her health declined.

Verna completed her education in the Calcasieu Parish School System attending John F. Kennedy Elementary School, Rosteet Junior High School and graduated from W.O. Boston High School in May of 1978.  After completion of high school, Verna attended Sowela Technical Institute.  She then worked in retail at Sears, K-Mart and Wal-Mart.  She also worked in Human Resources as a manager at Isle of Capri Casino and Cinemark Theatres.

Verna had two sons who she treasured dearly; the late Augustus Belton and Adriene Stevens.  She was later united in holy matrimony to Jonathan Ruffin on November 2, 1996 and to this union, one son, the late Isaiah Ruffin was born.

Verna was a kind and loving mother, grandmother, and aunt.  She loved traveling; especially going on cruises.  She also loved to shop.  Most of all, Verna loved professional baseball.  One of her favorite moments was when her dear son, Adriene, recently took her to an Astro's game in Houston, Tx.  She also loved preparing and trying different recipes; her favorite being Kool-Aid pies, which were good.  She was a nurturing person.  Verna was also known to greet everyone with her infectious bright smile on her face and was a fierce and mighty woman of God who listened to Gospel music at all times at home and in her car.

On Thursday, September 22, 2022 at 4:00 pm after a lengthy illness, God saw that Verna was tiring, so he called her home to rest.  She departed this worldly life while a patient at Harbor Hospice of Lake Charles, Louisiana surrounded by her loving family.
