Yvonne "Betty" Thibodeaux Obituary

Yvonne Betty Boutte Thibodeaux was born in Plaisance, LA, to the late Joseph Roul Boutte and Elizabeth Bertrand Boutte. She answered the call, and the angels carried her to her heavenly home on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. 1953 she graduated from Plaisance High School, St. Landry, Opelousas, La. She married the late Andrew Louis Thibodeaux in 1956, and they had three children: Gwendolyn, Lydia, and Randy.

She was a faithful member of St. Henry Catholic Church, serving as an Eucharistic Minister, Altar Society, Court Lady of the Lake #695 Catholic Daughter Society, making homebound visits offering communion and prayers, St. Joseph Society, and popcorn committee. She loved sending text messages to everyone she knew daily with encouraging sayings about the Lord.

She worked as a domestic engineer, H. S. Kress as a waitress, and retail at Service Merchandise, Marcels Boutique. She did private sitting, and she would say, “I’m driving Ms. Daisey, and we are going shopping, eating, and running around. And as an entrepreneur, she took orders and shipped pecan candy to various places. She also completed a course in Adult Education computer class via online banking and Facebook.

2821 11th Street was the house for a good, delicious Sunday meal, and the saying was, “Don’t be the last one.” Favorites were her okra, eggplant dressing, Betty’s fried chicken, rice dressing, pecan candy, homemade muscadine wine, and “her” grandmother’s recipe for sour potato salad, just to name a few.

She enjoyed traveling near and abroad, loved to dress and bling, bling, bling, gardening with her plants and flowers, bowling, bingo, and bean bag, and was very competitive. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, where she served as parliamentarian and sergeant at arms. Price-Miller was the Senior citizen hangout where she fellowshipped with friends, exercised, played card games, had cookouts, and just had fun. She was known as ‘Stella’-meaning Stella got her groove.

She suffered from a major stroke on Dec. 21, 2022, which left her paralyzed, taking away her independence. She pushed through, still vibrantly, and making plans to get back home. When her journey gave her setbacks, she would say, “suck it up, Betty,”; and encourage others at the center with a smile, praying for them and sometimes using a few choice words. She believed God, saying I am going to walk myself right out of here. She never stopped fighting and never lost her faith!!! Maurice the cat had nothing on her.

Her children survive her, Gwendolyn Marie (Johnathan) Whitlock of Sunset, LA, Lydia Ann (Joshua) Thibodeaux-Moreaux, and Randy Louis (Barbara) Thibodeaux, both of Lake Charles, LA. Bonus son, Dr. Jarmon C. (Retana) Comeaux, MD, ABIM of Moss Bluff, LA. Her siblings are Sylvia B. (Willis) Simien, Alice B. (Louis) Guidry, Rosemary B. (Raymond) Young, Mamie B. (Daniel) Frazier, Harold J. (Sujuan) Boutte, Sr., and Gail B. (Cornelius) Dupree. Grandchildren, Calum (Tiffany) Whitlock, Hanah Thibodeaux, Ambria P. Whitlock (Rodney) Hunter, Jr., Justin-Jairus (Paola) Moreaux, Shleah and Shreah Whitlock, Joel J. Moreaux, Andrew Louis Thibodeaux, Jr. Three great-grandchildren, Janiah-Joy Moreaux, Rayden Karter Hunter, and Gia Lillian Whitlock. Bonus grandchildren: Lucretia, Joshua, Jr., Jamar (Shatonia), Robert, Jr, and Brittany. Godchildren: Michael Thibodeaux, Menelika-McCarthy Basele, Reverend Gregory Simien, Bryan Smith, Eric Higgins, and Christopher Frazier.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Louis Thibodeaux; parents, Joseph Roul Boutte and Elizabeth Boutte; and sister, Edna Boutte Parish.
